1st Grade Skeletons - Dias de los Meurtos

Hello My Amazing Artists!

1st Grade made these fantastic skeletons in honor of Dias de los Meurtos, which they are studying about in Spanish class. The students thought about the shape of a skull - specifically eye sockets not eyeballs. Then they did a little paint mixing magic to make the flowers (creating a tint by adding white so that the colors were opaque - not thin and see through).

Kindergarten Wooly Bears

Hello My Amazing Artists!

Kindergarteners did some fun printing to create these Wooly Bear caterpillars. First we looked at 5 wiggly wooly bears that made a guest appearance in class. We talked about what we saw: colors, patterns, spikey fur - and what we knew about these caterpillars. Then the students painted their backgrounds and used a BALLOON to "bop" the caterpillar body on their page. Next, using cut cardboard dipped in paint, they created the spikey hair. Feet, eyes, mouth and multi-colored grass came last.

2nd Grade Pumpkins at Night

Hello My Amazing Artists!

Second Grade worked very hard on these Pumpkins At Night. They learned about perspective - foreground, middle ground, and background - and how to use size to convey depth - big, medium, small. They had to incorporate two colors in everything they drew, because nature is never just one color. And lastly they added their own interesting details. These are perfect for this time of year.

1st Grade Tigers

Hello My Amazing Artists!

First Grade finished these amazing tigers! They learned about monoprinting, symmetry (which built off their knowledge of monarch butterfly symmetry) and observation. We drew a tiger on the right half of construction paper, then the students used a reference picture of a tiger to determine where the colors went. They painted a little, folded the paper and rubbed. This created the monoprint. These are so beautiful.
