3rd Grade - Hippos

Hello My Amazing Artists!

The art work is rolling in! Only one 3rd grade class worked on these fantastic hippo pictures inspired by illustrator Melanie Mikecz: Underwater Hippo Print . The other class missed art due to a field trip to the Tunbridge Fair.

The students worked on careful coloring and proper painting techniques. We also talked about above and below the water line. Some artists had extra details they wanted to add.  These are a charismatic bunch of hippos for sure.

2nd Grade - Swarm of Jellyfish

Hello My Amazing Artists!

Second grade spent 2 weeks making these amazing jellyfish. They worked on creating TINTS and SHADES to show VALUE in their background colors. Then they examined the shape and lines of a jellyfish and used VARIETY of size, direction and color to draw their jellies with chalk. They lightly blended in color because jellyfish are transparent.  Final details of seaweed using oil pastel and splatter paint for bubbles and their underwater scenes were complete. Well done!

Kindergarten Line Lions

Hello My Amazing Artists!

Kindergarten has been working on learning about lines: vertical, horizontal, straight, wavy, zig zag, castle..... We talked about how lines make shapes and shapes make pictures. Using a few basic shapes - circles and triangles - we made a lion face. The students then used different colored oil pastels and different lines to make the lion's mane! Aren't these terrific?!
